The Fenris Wolf Podcast, episode 11
Hellelujah! The Fenris Wolf podcast is back. Video here: (Also available in audio via RSS) In episode 11 of the Fenris Wolf podcast, titled “The Earworms of My Mind,” Carl Abrahamsson delves into the profound and often overlooked power of music, particularly its evocative capabilities and potential for magical use. Abrahamsson highlights how music is typically perceived as a passive experience, where listeners curate playlists or choose songs to set moods for relaxation or productivity. However, he suggests that music can also be a dynamic tool for emotional processing and magical practice. Abrahamsson discusses the phenomenon of Involuntary Musical Imagery (INMI), commonly known as earworms, where certain songs or tunes spontaneously surface in the mind and persistently loop. He notes that this involuntary recall can occur due to various triggers, including emotional states, contextual reminders, or even fatigue and stress, which may weaken cognitive inhibition. The...
New rune class coming up
Interested in the origins of the Nordic magical runes? Beginning April 5th, join Swedish author Carl Abrahamsson for a journey back in time to uncover the origins of the Nordic magical runes. Using the groundbreaking theories of Swedish runologist Sigurd Agrell, we will trace the runes back to the second century CE and explore how the fertile cultural soil of the Roman Empire shaped Germanic peoples—including their adoption of a specific written alphabet used primarily for magical purposes. Agrell showed that by rearranging the established rune row, the magical kinship with Greco-Roman and even earlier letter-magical systems becomes strikingly clear. Over four weeks, we will study the magical inscriptions on Swedish rune stones (many still standing in the landscape today) and examine theories about how the mythic figure of Wotan became the Scandinavian Odin through these early runic pioneers active in and around the Roman Empire. We will also ask whether some of this influence may...
The Fenris Wolf Salon
Welcome to the very first Fenris Wolf Occulture Salon. For many years, The Fenris Wolf has explored the strange and fascinating intersections between magic, art, psychology, film, music, psychedelia and the hidden currents that run through culture. Now I would like to open up a more direct space for conversation. This salon will be an informal live gathering on Substack — a place to hang around, exchange ideas, ask questions, share discoveries, and generally explore the strange landscape of occulture together. The theme for this first meeting will be: What is Occulture — and why does it seem to be everywhere today? From cinema and music to AI, psychedelics, conspiracy theories and experimental art, magical thinking and esoteric ideas seem to be resurfacing in unexpected places. Why is this happening? What does it mean? And where might it lead? I will begin with a short introduction and a few thoughts about the history of occulture and how it has evolved since the early days of The...
New Class coming up!
Beginning February 21st, and for four online sessions in total, I will host the class INTRODUCTION TO OCCULTURE. What is Occulture, and why is it so trendy and popular? More than just a play on the words Occult and Culture, Occulture is a real phenomenon that affects mainstream life in many ways. In this class we will look at the history of Occulture, its terms, meanings, and dynamics. We will look at specifically occult occulture in history as well as contemporary examples, including key people and instigators, and we will also touch upon cultural occulture in the same way. Of course we will ask and possibly answer the most important question: why is there so much occultism, magic, and occulture around today? If you’re curious about these things, you should sign up for this four session online class with me, Carl Abrahamsson. In each session there will also be time and space for discussion and Q & A. I can’t wait to see you there, as we go through this informative and inspiring...
